Where can I store my wood pellets?

Wood pellets are very easy to store and can be stored in a shed, a bunker or anywhere that’s sheltered from the rain. Most people will purchase wood pellets in bags and this makes it very easy to handle them, move them and makes storage really simple as well. Bags are sealed from the elements (although you will see small “breather” holes to allow excess moisture to escape so even the odd drop of rain hitting the bags generally won’t cause any harm.

Wood pellets getting damp is a myth and it's simply not true to say that wood pellets will absorb moisture from the atmosphere and make them unusable. In the past, many wood pellets were delivered in bulk and stored in poor quality, not fully sealed, external silos. This allowed water to get into the wood pellets and then of course, they swell, turn to mush and this could cause an issue for the boiler. But then, if you left the cap off your oil tank and let water in, that wouldn't work so well in your oil boiler either!
