What is the correct cowl to use?

We recommend the use of an anti-downdraught cowl for two main reasons:

  1. To prevent sudden fluctuations in the normal pressure of the chimney - this can result in errors on your stove as all high quality wood pellet stoves are fitted with pressure sensors which help to protect you against flue and draught issues. In an old, solid fuel appliance, the downdraught would usually cause a puff of smoke being blown into the room but this is no longer an acceptable result of downdraught.
  2. To prevent rain getting into the flue.

Each chimney is different so sometimes a different cowl may need to be considered. This is especially likely where installed in a particularly exposed or windy area.

We also recommend that a cowl with a bird guard is considered.
