Do I need a hearth for my wood pellet stove

Yes, per Building Regulations and manufacturer’s guidelines, all stoves must be fitted on a hearth. With a wood pellet stove, because the stove itself won’t be hot like for example a solid fuel stove, the hearth does not have to be as thick.

Any non-combustible material can be used for a hearth and it must extend beyond all sides of the stove and this distance is usually greatest to the front of your stove. We suggest that you fit your hearth, flush with your floor finish, to avoid a dangerous or intrusive step.

As always, we strongly recommend that you always engage a professional, registered and insured installer when having any stove fitted. This should ensure that all correct procedures are followed, give you peace of mind and protect you in the case of an incident.
