What maintenance do I need to do regularly?

Regular wood pellet stove maintenance is a really simple affair. We would generally recommend the following steps:

On a daily basis (or up to weekly, depending on usage) and when the stove is cold:

  1. Open the door and take out the burnpot.
  2. Clean all the holes in the burn pot and ensure they are clear.
  3. Clean the ignition element and surrounding tube (this is usually located at the rear of the burnpot).
  4. Give the viewing glass a quick wipe of a damp cloth or kitchen towel.

On a weekly basis (or up to bi-weekly, depending on usage) and also when the stove is cold:

  1. Repeat as above
  2. Remove or loosen the top baffle plate, if your stove has one. This is located inside your stove, at the very top.
  3. Remove the ashpan and empty it (or you can vacuum out the ash if it's easier for you but please use an ashvac).
  4. Vacuum the entire interior of your stove.

On an annual basis or when your stove reminds you:

Contact your technician to schedule a professional service. This is extremely important in the case of a wood pellet stove.

A wood pellet stove burns timber and although ash content is tiny, it still produces ash. Much of this ash is very small particulate matter and travels through your stove and into the flue system. It's extremely important that all internal passages and the flue are cleaned at least annually or when the reminder occurs. You can raise a ticket with us if you wish to schedule a maintenance call.
